Free at Last

How can words propel cultural and social change?

The installation engages with the audience by means of language, giving room for re-appropriation, reassembly, reformation and re-reading of one of the most famous quotes, that embodies the will of social progress.
“Free at Last! Free at Last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!” – Or are we? The installation takes the quote and dissects it into 8 single words. Through 8 speakers those words are then played back, changing the structure of the original citation. In an oscillation between sense and nonsense new questions and meanings evolve.
